Statelessness
Statelessness & citizenship
No one should be erased by a register or a border. We stand with the Rohingya and with people in Assam at risk of losing their citizenship.

Context
What's happening
Statelessness leaves people without the protection of any state — shut out of education, healthcare, work and justice.
The Rohingya were stripped of their citizenship in Myanmar and driven into exile. In Assam, India, nearly two million people were left off the final National Register of Citizens in 2019.
Our position
Citizenship is a human right, not a privilege granted by governments. We call for the restoration of citizenship to the Rohingya, an end to arbitrary exclusion in Assam, and accountability for those responsible for persecution.
